Bangkirai
Country origin: Indonesia
Description: Bangkirai Wood Floors
Appearance: The sapwood of bangkirai is a light pale brown, while the heartwood is more brownish-yellow in color. The species has a straight or interlocked grain and is smooth and glossy in texture
Properties: Bangkirai wood floors are hearty, durable exotic wood species, somewhat durable in its exposed form with regards to decay. The wood remains smooth under friction and is reported to have no odor. Bangkirai requires care in drying as splitting and cracking is known to occur.
Botanical name: Shorea laevis
Hardness: 1798 as compared to: Red oak 1260& N maple- 1450 (Janka chart)

 

 

Keruing
Country origin : Indonesia
Description : Keruing Wood Floors
Appearance : Heartwood varies between species but is most sommonly red-brown. Variations include deep-pink, orange-pink, purple-red. Sapwood is usually lighter in shade and may have yellow or greyish tinges. Wood darkens with age.
Botanical name : Dipterocarpus spp.
Hardness : Moderately hard (rated 3 on a 6 class scale) in relation to indentation
and ease of working with hand tool, density of 790kg/m3 at 12% moisture content.

 

 

Kempas
Country origin: SE Asia
Description : Kempas wood flooring is a course grained, very hard, red colored wood that is widely used for flooring in the Far East.
Color Range : Kempas wood floors offer a wide range of color variability from pink colors to medium rose colors through to darker red colors.
Color Change : Kempas wood floors undergoes a medium degree of muting of the color range over time and a slight darkening to a medium reddish color.
Botanical name : Koompassia, malaccensis
Hardness : 1710 as compared to: Red oak- 1260 & N maple- 1450 (Janka chart)

 

Merbau
Country origin : South East Asia
Description : Merbau wood floors are medium colored wood with reddist/orange highlights with a course graining. Many pieces exhibit yellow “flecking” in the pores.
Color range : Merbau wood flooring comes in a fairly wide range of color variability from light brown to medium to dark brown. Many pieces will have a yellow dust in the pores which show up as gold “flecking when finished.
Color change : Merbau wood flooring undergoes a medium to large degree
of color change, with the muting of the color variation from when fresh milled
and with darkening over time to deeper orangey brown color.

Meranti
Country of origin : South East Asia
Description : Meranti wood flooring
Appearance : Meranti heartwood varies from pale pink to dark red in the light
and dark red in the light and dark red groups and from white through straw to
yellow in the yellow-white group.
Botanical name : Dipterocarpaceae
Hardeness : variable depending on the group dark red 670kg/m3, light red
560kg/m3, white 705kg/m3 yellow 660kg/m3.
